On December 24, Men’s Team (Shaanxi Competition Area) for2019 NationalYouth Campus Football League sponsored by the office of Football Working Leading Group for NationalYouth Campus Football League and Education Department of Shaanxi Provincial Government was successfully completed in Xi’an University of Posts & Telecommunications. The Competition was lasted for 18 days, was divided into high-level team, campus team and junior college team, and attracted more than 900 participants in 36 teams from 32 universities and colleges in Shaanxi Province. Xidian University’s Men’s Football Team finally came third.
Xidian University’s Men’s Football Team was included in team D in the group stage and competed for the two qualification places against seven university teams in Shaanxi Province. Compared to 2:6 of other three teams, team D was fierce. However, Xidian University’s Men’s Football Team entered knockout stage as No. 1 in team D.
In the first round of 8: 4 of knockout stage, Xidian drew by lot and confronted with its old rival Northwestern Polytechnical University that is a “Big Mac Football Team”. It is such an unfortunate arrangement that promoted “football players” of Xidian University made shocking “Xidian wonders” in the football history of Xidian University. In the competition, the team fell behind for four times, gave a final hit, and scored the equalizer of 4:4 before the final, and won the final penalty kick. No one thought about giving up from the coach to players. They just focused on competition, kept chin up, and fully showed their strong abilities to resist setback and the spirit of never giving up.
In the semi-final, Xidian University’s Men’s Football Team indomitably struggled for 90min and was defeated by Xi’an University of Posts & Telecommunications with home advantage in 0:1 due to strength and luck, and was unable to join in the final. However, these players were not frustrated, regained confidence in the third place race on the next day, defeated Xijing University in 6:0, and came third in the Competition.
Universities and colleges paid high attention to the eleven-a-side football that is the traditional football project. In the great support of leaders of the University and the Department of Physical Education, under the supervision of the Deputy Director Kong Dong, and under the careful coaching and leadership of Teacher Li Songtai, Xidian University’s Mans Football Team spared no effort to prepare for competition within limited time and was united and hardworking so as to fully show training results in the Competition, carried forward the fighting spirit of Xidian University’s Men’s Football Team, won the Third Prize and an honor for the University. It was worth mentioning that Wang Wei, the Coach of China U-16 National Women's Football Team paid high attention to match results of the Team in the Competition, physically watched the Competition, provided critical coaching for the Team, and expressed concerns and expectations for development of Xidian campus football.
Looking back to the whole competition, Xidian University’s Men’s Football Team has fully showed the ability of resisting setback and physical education effect of the University with practical actions, which means to strengthen physique in sports starting from enjoying the pleasure, perfect personality through cooperation, and temper willpower in hard time. The Department of Physical Education will further pay attention to teaching education and contribute to growth of Xidian students in the unique way of PE based on club teaching mode in the future.
