The taekwondo delegation of Xidian University was led by Yu Shaoyong, head of Department of Physical Education with Li Zhi, a teacher from Taekwondo Club, as the coach. A taekwondo competition can be divided into two types: competition and routine. Competition belongs to fighting while routine refers to self-presentation i.e. a competitor shows the required actions to be scored by the referee. As the old saying goes,“one minute on the stage needs ten years of practice off stage”. Though these students were bright and brave at the site of competition, they encountered many difficulties during preparation for the race. Shao Ruifan, the silver medal winner, is a freshman without any competition experience; among all team members, six senior students are under the pressure of graduation and postgraduate entrance exam. The The taekwondo delegation of Xidian University overcame difficulties and trained hard in the first try to participate in the group taekwondo event it has never participated in before regardless of inadequate experience and time. It was not easy to achieve such good results and each competitor performed very well.
Such good results should be attributed to the students and coach who have trained and worked hard, and especially the support of the school. Taekwondo Club of Xidian University will work harder in the future and continue to bring honor for the sports undertakings of the school.
